DGM HQ Waking with dread

10.48

DGM HQ.

Waking with dread. Yes - it's Crimson touring time again. An e-mail informs me that our team has been exchanging calls with all parties for the past 3 weeks.

I have asked to be given approval of tours ahead of time. In practice, that doesn't happen - a tour gets set up & I come home damaged. This is not a situation, I note, that will be continuing for much longer.

Another (recurring) topic -- On my desk: a press cutting, a long article on REM that has one mention of Robert Fripp. Peter Buck is quoted, saying that RF used an e-bow a lot in the 1970s. Actually, I have never used an e-bow professionally. I have one that was given to me by Chris Stein of Blondie in 1978 and it is in my study in Bredonborough. I played with it a little at the time (in NYC) but have never used it live or on records: I found it too cumbersome. All sustains were obtained by other means, including onHeroes.

DGM continuing-concern of the morning: the DVD that won't go away. It appears that both stereo & surround imaging are reversed on the final DVD, although our sound-masters in DGM SoundWorld have Ade on the left, Grumpy on the right. We are seeking to discover where the reversal was made. The European DVD should be corrected in time - the manufacture is next Monday. For the US, and anyone who might like to have the picture more closely relating to the sound & as per the producers' intent, it's down to reversing the speakers.

Broad Chalke accents began punctually at 08.30.
